Probes:

Standard Probe X1,X10 Lab Probes
Standard lab probes provide excellent signal capture capabilities. They are shielded and offer the switchable option to attenuate (divide down) the signal by a factor 10 and increase the oscilloscope's input impedance from 1M Ohm to 10 M Ohm. The probes provide small clips and are more sensitive to heat and damage than other probe types.

Standard lab probes are used with low level and high impedance signals which are subject to noise pickup and with higher voltage signals such as unregulated alternator outputs.

E-Probe External trigger pickup (inductive)
The E-Probe is an external trigger pickup for synchronizing the oscilloscope to cylinder 1.

I-Probe Capacitive pickup for secondary ignition
The I-Probe is used to pick up the secondary waveform. It is usually clipped to the common spark wire entering the distributor or to a Pickup Clip attached to the distributor. It is also possible to connect it to a single cylinder's plug wire. I-Probe offers limited use for DIS, Distributorless Ignition Systems, by moving the probe from cylinder to cylinder.

Other Accessories:

Distributor pickup clips for GM & Toyota
Pickup Clips are used with the I-Probe for automotive makes that do not offer a common spark wire entering the distributor. The most common automotive types needing the clips are GM and Toyota.

Ground lead 6ft banana to alligator clip
Most automotive signal measurements are made relative to the car chassis ground (or negative side of the car battery). A Ground Lead connected to the automotive chassis ground or ground side of the car battery is sufficient for many of these measurements. The Ground Lead provides a convenient method to connect the oscilloscope to the chassis ground so the technician only has to worry about the signal point.

Probe Lead extension
Standard lab probes are about 4 feet long. The Lead Ext, probe lead extension, adds another 6 feet to the length of the probe. This allows the oscilloscope to be located a little farther away than under the car hood.

Auto Adapters for battery and cigarette lighter plug
It is possible to power the O-Scope II from the auto battery. For test drives, it can be plugged into the cigarette lighter plug. When working under the hood, a cigarette lighter socket with alligator clips allows the unit to be powered straight from the battery. The O-Scope can, of course, be powered via the AC wall adapter in the shop.

Adapter probe clip/banana socket for standard lab probe to banana socket

Standard lab probes are the most versatile probes but they are more fragile and subject to thermal damage than other types. When the oscilloscope is located on a cart next to the auto, the standard probes are too short for many measurements. Adapter P/B attaches to the lab probe clip and allows a silicone rubber test lead (voltmeter lead) with banana plugs to be used to extend the distance under the hood. Silicon rubber test leads are subject to noise pickup but they are the most rugged leads typically used in automotive applications. The adapter offers both extension and allows the lab probe's X1,X10 attenuation switch capabilities to be used for looking at higher voltages or high impedance signals (although these high impedance signals are likely to be subject to noise pickup).

Adapter bnc/banana adapts banana socket onto
BNC connector

The Adapter B/B allows the connection of a test lead to the signal input of the oscilloscope. It can be placed on the BNC input connector of the oscilloscope or placed at the end of the shielded lead extension. This allows the red/black test leads to be used without the standard lab probe.

Adapter T/B Adapter trigger/BNC adapts 3.5mm ext. trig. jact to BNC input connector

The external trigger input of the O-Scope II comes with a 3.5mm phone jack rather than a BNC connector. A 3.5mm phone jack is also referred to as a 1/8 inch diameter headphone plug, the size typically used on headphones for portable stereos. The E-Probe, external trigger input probe, is provided with the proper connector.

Lead Set Lead Set Shielded lead set with 2 5way piercing clips Silicone leads - unshielded

Due to the nature of automotive environment, connectors, and wiring, the Lead Set is provided to allow some ease in making measurements. The Lead Set includes a shielded signal cable that connects to the standard BNC oscilloscope input and breaks out at the other end into banana plugs. Two heavy duty 5 way piercing clips are included. These offer a "bed of nails" piercing point for making connections through insulated wire plus multiple alligator clip options. This probe provides a fairly rugged method for under the hood environment. Also provided are a voltmeter style test leads with banana plug connections on each end. There are quite a variety of banana pluggable connections and probe tips available from a variety of sources which will work with the Lead Set.

Waveforms Sample Waveforms with Comments II AES
Waveforms is a manual written by Jorge Menchu and published by Automotive Electronic Services. It provides introductory information concerning automotive electricity and electronics, including a variety of example signals. It is a good tutorial for learning the more advanced diagnostics required of modern automobiles.

Hard Case II - Carrying and storage case
Hard Case II is a plastic carrying and storage case for the O-Scope II and its accessories. It is roughly the shape and size of a briefcase, 13x17x6 inches. It has foam sheets, 2 snap locks, and a handle.
